The former Kato Shokai Building, where this exhibition is held, is a historic structure that once served as the headquarters of a trading company which imported rice from Thailand during the 1918 Rice Riots, supporting the lives of local citizens. It was later used as the Thai Consulate. Starting from this historical context, the exhibition presents photographs of people transporting things in Bangkok’s Chinatown, the city’s logistics hub. With recent concerns about rice supply in Japan, the exhibition focuses on the figure of the “carrier” to reconsider the relationships between society, cities, and people, connecting different times and places.
